Most men oil the part of the beard they can see. The skin that actually dries out is lower down, along your jaw and under your chin, and that’s the part this bottle is aimed at.
Sweet enough for winter, dry enough for the office
Caramel sits in the opening and vanilla sits at the end, so the sweetness arrives twice with a dry stretch in between. The tobacco and patchouli hold that middle, which is what keeps it wearable at a desk rather than only after six. The tobacco note here is the dried leaf, closer to dried fruit than anything else, and on your beard it reads sweet and dry.
- Top: sage, caramel, bergamot
- Middle: tobacco, patchouli, lavender, cinnamon
- Base: musk, amber, vanilla, tonka beans
This is the sweetest thing we make. If you’d rather have something sharp or green, that’s the other end of the rest of our beard oils.
Where the drops actually go
Tip three or four drops into your palm, rub your hands together once, and start under the chin where you can’t see. Work up along the jaw on both sides, then the cheeks, and only then down the length. The first inch of skin is where the dryness is, and if you start at the ends you’ll be out of oil by the time you reach it.
Three or four drops covers a short beard, five or six if yours is past the collarbone. More than that doesn’t absorb, it just sits on the surface, and a bottle that should last five months is gone in two.
If your beard won’t comb flat
Coarse hair fights a comb because it’s dry, not because it’s stubborn. Oil at the roots right after a wash softens it enough to move, and combing while it’s still damp sets the direction for the rest of the day. It won’t hold a shape the way wax does, but a beard that combs easily doesn’t need much holding.
Use the same scent on your face and hair
You can keep this one going past the beard. Tobacco & Patchouli Face, Beard & Hair Wash cleans without stripping the skin you just conditioned, and Tobacco & Patchouli Beard & Face Moisturizer handles the face around the beard. Only two of the eight scents go this far, so run the three together and there’s one scent instead of three arguing.
How to use
Work three or four drops through a freshly washed beard, starting at the roots, then comb into shape.
A 30 ml bottle holds roughly 600 drops. At three or four a day that’s about five months; at six, closer to three.
